What to Expect

Event Location:Milton Fall Fair

Overview:

The Firefighter Appreciation Challenge is designed to be an enjoyable, challenging day for all involved.  The day is meant to raise awareness and funds for the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation.

 

Event Access:

Event location is at the Milton Fall Fair.  You can visit their web site for all on-site location details.  All athletes and volunteers will be provided ahead of time with an access code to bypass Fall Fair admission fees.  Only one code will be provided per athlete.  This will be emailed to you before Friday.

Friends and family will need to pay regular fair admission fees (see below), which are minimal and help produce the event.  Tickets can be purchased here.

 

Parking:

Parking is available on site. Parking cost is $5 but we are hopeful that athletes and volunteer parking fees will be waived.  TBD.

 

Registration:

Day of registration will occur inside the Milton Fall Fair in front of the GrandStand at the Reebok CrossFit FirePower Tent.  Registration will begin at 8:30am and all athletes should be registered by 9am.  First event begins at 10am.

 

Bunker Gear: 

Every participant will be wearing bunker gear for each event including pants and jacket.  Active FireFighters should bring their own bunker gear.  For the rest of participants, we will be issuing bunker gear on Friday Sept 22 from 11am to 5pm & Saturday September 23 from 9am to 12pm at REEBOK CROSSFIT FIREPOWER, 705 NIPISSING ROAD, MILTON.  If you are coming from out of town, please email us with your team’s unisex size need and we will bring gear to registration at the Milton Fall Fair.

Air packs will be given out at the start of each heat.

 

Clothing:

The gear can become very hot.  Prepare to wear thin breathable clothing.  You will also want to bring a change of clothing as the bunker gear tends to trap heat and moisture.

 

Footwear:

You will wear your own running shoes or workboots. If the forecast is calling for rain, bringing additional clothing & footwear may be in your best interest.

 

Gloves:

We recommend you bring a pair of leather gloves which may be helpful for some of the events.  All events can be completed without gloves but if you want to bring them they will be allowed. They will not be provided on-site.

 

PLEASE REMOVE all jewelry including: necklaces, earrings and rings before arriving.

 

Weather:

The event takes place rain or shine. Events will only be cancelled or changed if there is lightening or the conditions are deemed unsafe.  Please prepare accordingly.

 

Challenges:

There will be three Challenges.  Challenges will not be released ahead of time.  Event rules and all details will be provided at registration on the day of the event and questions will be answered in the briefing prior to each event. The timeline for the day is very tight.  Heats will go on schedule.  Please review which heat you are in for each event and be prepared to move to the staging area when your Heat is called.

 

Spectators:

Spectators are welcome to the event with admission prices listed below:

  • Saturday or Sunday Adults Tickets: $10
  • Children 5-12 years: $5
  • Children under 5: Free
  • Parking: $5

Please consider a small donation as well to the Canadian Fallen FireFighters at the boot drive at FirePower tent.  Any donation greater than $25 will receive a tax receipt slip. There is an ATM machine located onsite however debit and credit card can be accepted.

Dogs are NOT allowed at the Milton Fall Fair.

 

Food/Drinks:

Food & Drinks are available for purchase at the Fall Fair. Here’s a list of the types of food available.   Athletes and volunteers are welcome to bring any additional snacks and food they would like with them.

 

Alcohol:

There will be a licensed area opening at 11:30am.  Any alcohol must be purchased and remain only in indicated areas.  Certified servers will be checking ID and will not serve anyone under age. Personal alcohol will not be permitted onsite.
